De’ette has over 20 years’ experience in the banking and tax industries and has recently returned to part-time work. De’ette understands the positive impact organisations like Vaiola Pacific Island Budgeting Service Trust has in the community. She is proud to be part of an organisation which helps to educate and inform people so that they can improve their financial position.
Don is the co-founder and worked under the umbrella group of South Auckland Income Planning Service from 1997. When their Treasurer resigned in December 2000, Don became acting Treasurer for the entire group.
From July 2003, Vaiola Pacific Island Budgeting Service Trust operated under its own Trust. Don has served as Treasurer ever since. Don comes from a New Zealand Railways background having worked as a draughtsman for 35 years.
John is currently employed as the National Community Development Manager for the NZ Government’s social housing agency. He was a former housing services manager for the Manurewa, Clendon and Wiri areas.
In April 2019, he completed almost six years as Otara Health Charitable Trust’s General Manager and CEO , following a period of almost two years serving as a trustee for OHCT.
John is a current trustee with Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust, a post treaty settlement iwi governance entity operating in Wellington. John is chair of the Settlement Trust’s Finance, Audit and Risk committee.
He serves as a trustee on various boards including Port Nicholson Block Trust, Alcohol Healthwatch, Trust MYRIVR.
Kate joined the Board as Treasurer in February 2019.
Sositine has over 25 years’ experience working in the community. She joined Vaiola in 2010 and has loved working in the community helping families.
She previously worked for Ole Lafitaga Trust and the Mt Roskill Police Community Policing Centre.
She was a Board Member/Parent Community Representative for the Hay Park Primary School and Board Member/Patients Representation of the Roskill Union Community Health. Sositine has three grown up children and four grand-children.
Tracy has been a Trustee since 2015. In 2017, she was appointed as General Manager of the Trust. Tracy is also a Financial Mentor and Money Mates Facilitator.
With more than 21 years’ experience working for a Government Department, Tracy has an extensive background as a trainer, coach and mentor. Tracy has had many years’ voluntary service for various Boards.
She received a Local Hero award for her services to the Manurewa Community in 2014. She is looking forward to starting her Adult Teaching Diploma this year. Tracy is proud to be a part of Vaiola’s team and the work that we do in the community.

Tupe has been a Financial Mentor for more than 20 years at Vaiola. Tupe started her budgeting career for the Otara Budgeting Service and worked there from 1991 to 1997.
Vai Harris QSM
Co-Founder & Service Manager
Vai co-founded Vaiola Pacific Island Budgeting Service Trust (VPIBST) in 1997 to meet a growing demand to service the Pasifika community in Mangere. Over the past 20 years Vai has built the service and as a result the Trust has an excellent reputation in the community.
In 2011 Vai was the recipient of the Government’s Queen Service Medal Award as recognition for her work for saving family homes from mortgagee sales.
Previously Vai was on the Board of Trustees tasked with forming Fonua Ola. She was also a Community Educator for NZFFBS and involved in developing the Investment Service Outcome project for the Ministry of Social Development.
Vai has appeared on both TV, radio and media as an advocate for budget and Pasifika related matters.
Issac Liava’a joined the Board in August 2019.
